2022 August, Rocky Mountain Pinzgauer Treffen
The Rocky Mountain Pinzgauer group had there annual Treffen in Gunnison, Colorado. People and trucks from Colorado and Arizona showed up.

Base camp was at the Tall Texan RV Park and Cabins in Gunnison, CO. This park had great amenities and resources for a relaxing time. Great location for a family to have there kids run around and play in the playground with a slower atmosphere.

August 4th we started our way to Crested Butte. The incredible high alpine environment, granite pinnacles, crystal clear streams, and summer wildflowers. Next we took Schofield Pass and found out why it is one of Colorado’s most notable four-wheel drive trail. Situated between Crested Butte and Marble, Schofield Pass Road features granite mountain peaks, expansive meadows, dense forest, wildlife, wildflowers, and the ice-cold Crystal River. It connects to numerous other popular roads and trails (Paradise Divide, Lead King Basin, and Crystal City Trail), not to mention the historic mountain towns and their unique attractions. After starting towards Crystal City trail we took a quick lunch break at the Crystal Mill where we quickly were informed that we could not pass thru on the trail due to recent mud slides. We ended up back tracking and taking Lead King Basin trail. This trail provided spectacular views of several nearby 14,000-ft mountains, plus the Maroon Bells Wilderness Area. Once we got to the City of Marble, we took the highway with some forest trails back to Gunnison. All in all it was a long and beautiful day!

August 5th was of course shooting day. We found the shooting range at Hartman Rocks and took the opportunity for some target practice. That evening we had the group dinner which came from 5B’s BBQ. The RV Park staffed joined in on our festivities and we ended up having the dinner in there beautiful front dining area. After dinner we had the raffle which allowed people to each bring and item to raffle off! Always a big hit at the events.

August 6th trails were Pearl Pass and Taylor Pass near Aspen. Our start did not go the way we wanted and ended up turning around at the gas station due to an unknown electrical issue at that time.

Thank you to the crew with the Rocky Mountain Pinzgauers for putting on this event! As mentioned many times, we will be back and be back with more members!

We would also like to thank LavaBox Portable Campfires for the Krakatoa Fire Breather fire box.
